| Description: | Battersea Dogs & Cats Home was founded in 1860 by Mary Tealby, who was concerned with the number of stray dogs wandering the streets of Victorian London. First known as the Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs, it was situated in a stable yard in north London. In 1871 the Home moved to its present site in Battersea and starting taking in cats in 1883. Each year they care for around 11,000 animals. |
