Breakthrough For Stem Cell Therapy in Dogs

Posted November 5, 2010 by in Pet Website News & Reviews | No comments yet

MediVet South America has introduced a major scientific advancement in animal stem cell regenerative therapy for dogs, cats and horses suffering from osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, ligament and cartilage injuries, and degenerative diseases.

The procedure will be performed for the first time in South America on Mon., November 8, 2010, 11 a.m., at Clinica Veterinaria Portal Mayor, Penalolen Santiago, Chile. The patient is an 11-year old German Shepherd dog with severe hip dysplasia. On Tues., November 9, 2010, 11 a.m., the MediVet stem cell therapy will be performed at Clinica Veterinaria Club Hipico, Santiago, on a horse with acute tendonitis.

The treatments will be performed by Dr. Mike Hutchinson, D.V.M., national spokesman for MediVet-America, and Dr. Lucas G. Pantaleon, D.V.M, M.S., D.A.C.V.I.M., equine veterinarian consultant to MediVet South America who taught at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Both veterinarians will present a seminar on animal stem cell technology on Mon., November 8, 2010, 7 p.m. , at Universidad Santo Tomas, Aula Magna de la Escuela de Medicina Veterinaria de la Universidad Santo Tomas ubicada en Avda. Ejercito 146, Santiago.

MediVet South America's new, drug-free Adipose Stem Cell Procedure Kit allows veterinarians to remove a small sample of fat, separate stem cells from the fat, then activate and inject the cells into the affected area. This unique in-clinic treatment is completed same day — within hours of fat collection — instead of using the old method of shipping samples to an outside laboratory for stem cell extraction and activation, then wait days for the cells to be returned to the vet for injection.

"Now veterinarians can fully perform stem cell therapy in their own practice, achieving up to four times the stem cell count of earlier procedures," said Geoff Scott of MediVet South America.  "It's also a great opportunity to grow a practice while doing what many veterinarians signed on for — to help animals lead longer, better lives."
